Software Watch: Part 1

If you are interested in office applications, try Zoho. They offer an online office solutions - some for free, some for fee.

I tried some of Zoho’s office apps…and, it’s not MS office, but it works.

Let me know what you think.

Online Advertising is Hot!!!

Online advertising companies are going through major consolidation. Big boys are buying online ad companies like there’s no tomorrow — Google buys DoubleClick, Yahoo buys the rest of Right Media, Publicis buys Digitas, AOL acquired a controlling interest in Adtech AG, WPP signed a deal to buy 24/7 Real Media, AOL gobbled up Boston-based mobile advertising startup Third Screen Media, etc.

MySpace to Acquire Photobucket?

Earlier this month, Photobucket ran into a little problem with MySpace. MySpace locked out users from publishing to Photobucket from their site. Photobucket worked out a deal with MySpace to get the publishing feature turned on again…but, I’m wondering if MySpace used that as a strategy or way to value Photobucket/uers? The rumor is MySpace may acquire Photobucket for $200 million to $400 million range. Whatever the price is, soon we’ll be seeing ‘Photobucket by Myspace’.

Paris Goes To Jail

I guess you can call this news (really thin, but this is pop culture) - Paris Hilton was sentensed to 45 days in jail for violating her probation for alcohol-related reckless driving - driving with suspended license. With all her money, why did she drive with suspended license? Couldn’t she get her many hollyweird friends to drive? or hire a driver? I wonder if she’ll get street cred for going to the big house….lol. Okay, okay. it’s not funny for Paris, but she should have known better.

My suggestion for Paris….take it to the supreme court. Appeal, appeal, appeal. Be like every other celebrity, go into rehab and donate some cash to D.A.R.E.

Microsoft’s Takeover Bid For Yahoo

Could this happen? According to some articles on the web, Yahoo has been approached by Microsoft for a buyout — Yahoo has turned down the offer, but can they hold out? Why is Microsoft eyeing Yahoo? Online advertising? I think so. There were some rumors about Microsoft and AOL, but I think Yahoo is a better buy — if it happens.

A combined MSFT/YHOO would have 38% of US search share (vs. GOOG 48%), 27% worldwide (vs. GOOG 66%), 12% of US total page views (vs. GOOG 3%), and 19% of US total minutes (vs GOOG 3%)

UEFA Championship Update

Manchester Utd. went down today. AC Milan really took it to them. Beating Man Utd. soundly, AC Milan takes on Liverpool in the UEFA Championship Finals.

I predicted Man Utd. and Liverpool finals…oh well.

Immigration Rally? What!?!

I was watching the news today and I caught a short news segment on ’so called’ Immigration rally. Hummm…Immigration Ralley? I’m puzzeled when I heard that people were ralleying for immigration rights. What rights!?!? I don’t think US government has taken away any rights to legal immigrants. The rights they are talking about is US citizenship for illegals. I don’t see how someone can come to this country illegally (by breaking the law) and demand that they get a citizenship. This is just crazy talk. You can’t walk into someone’s house uninvited, clean, do the dishes, and then tell the owner that you are moving in because you did some work around the house!?! Citizenship (for any country) is not a right in my eyes. It has to be earned and it is a privilege. Just because U.S. is giving and kind (in general)…don’t try to take advantage of that. Do what’s right. Follow the law.

It was funny watching many folks at the ralley waving the US flag….they are trying get sympathy votes. I’m over this crap. Just stand in line like the rest of the law-abiding folks and sign the guestbook on your way in. That’s my opinion.

BTW, to those illegals from Mexico (I highlight Mexicans because they are the majority). Answer this question. What would Mexican government do if illegals from Guatemala marched in Mexico City demanding citizenship and more social spending for illegal Guatemalans? Shot? Thrown into Mexican jail? clubbed and sent back? You tell me. I can wait……..
