Google Office Suite For Sale

The battle for supremacy continues between Google and Microsoft. Google will be selling their web-based office suite for $50/year. For 50 bucks, here’s what you get from Google. 10 gigabytes of email storage, word processing, spreadsheets and calendar. Boring! I think Google came up short here. If you decide not to upgrade to Vista, stick with what you have for now….or, get Open Office. Open Office is free and it’s better than Google Online Office Suite.

2008 GOP Presidential Candidates?

This list is long, but here’s my picks to go against the

Mitt Romney - former Governor of Massachusetts, co-founder of Bain Capital, the CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympics, Romney raised $6.5 million in his first fundraiser, beating both Giuliani and McCain’s fundraising efforts

Rudy Giuliani - former mayor of New York City, pro-choice and pro gay rights,
John McCain - senator from Arizona, trong social conservative on many issues and economically falls more along the lines of traditional “fiscal conservatism

Newt Gingrich - former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and former U.S. Representative from Georgia, without exploratory committees but possible candidate.

XM and Sirius to Merge

I read that XM and Sirius has agree to merge to form one company….will this get approved by FCC? Well, I’m not sure. But, will this merge help realize positive revenue in the future? I read somewhere that these companies had accumulated $6 billion in losses. $6 billion!!!! I think it’s time for them to really look at their business model. $6 billion in losses can’t be fixed by merging 2 companies.

Samsung vs. Apple

Samsung has announced that they will be launching a new phone to rival the iPhone. It’s called ‘Ultra Smart F700′ (dumb name for a phone - fire the marketing/branding person!). I’ve browsed Samsung’s site and got some specs - 2.8 inch LCD screen, 5-megapixel digital camera with LED flash, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA download access (High Speed Downlink Packet Access, downloads 4 mb file in 4.4 sec.), bluetooth 2.0, SD card slot, slide out QWERTY keyboard, and much more.

Personally, I like iPhone form-factor better than any smartphone in the market…including the F700. And, I haven’t seen anything (features) that would get me to pass on iPhone. But….I could be wrong.

YouTube Co-founders Are Livin’ Large

Most folks working on Internet start-ups have big dreams. Dreams for innovation, making a difference, and cashing out BIG! Well, YouTube co-founders achieved all of the above.

According to Google SEC filings, YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen are each worth about $326 million, and the third co-founder Jawed Karim, who returned to Stanford before YouTube was bought last year is worth about $65 million.

Good going guys. Now, if I can only get my turn at the big bucks!!

3 Questions That VC Will Ask You..And You Should Know

What gives you an unfair advantage? What sets you apart from the many potential “me-too” companies?

What is your business model?

What’s your short-term direction, and the specific milestones you are trying to reach?

Facebook Moving Toward Video

Facebook and Comcast owned Ziddio will partner up on a user created video. This is a good move for Facebook. Facebook doesn’t want to launch a video hosting/encoding/streaming site…it costs too much. Facebook users are Youtube users, so it makes sense that Facebook embraces video, but without spending money to build out the video service. This is where Ziddio comes in. Ziddio has the infrastructure and is looking for users. Facebook will provide that. I think this will be a win win for both Facebook and Ziddio. Now…if they can only answer the questions around monetizing the video market.

Apple iPhone….Microsoft Zune Phone?

Yes! It’s a rumor, but I think it’s coming. Soon there will be phones enabled with ZUNE service/Player. Microsoft is busy trying to catch up to Apple and everyone else in the music player/device. Big Daddy Gates better get the folks in Redmond thinking/working if they ever wish to become a threat to Apple.
